Does anyone else find it odd that they didn't wait until the body had been delivered to the U.S. to bury it "in accordance with Muslim rules"?

As I said on another thread, I'm troubled by they way this seems to have been so neatly tied up with a bow for our consumption.

I really wish I didn't feel this way. Seems like there was a time when I tended to believe what I was told by those in power. When you stop believing that, the world is a more horrifying place than it was before. But I can't seem to help myself. *wry smile*

it is both. the government and media are like the bestest of buds in like the entire fantasy lala land of planet earth. the terrorist boogieman has been found and killed after an even ten years since that pivotal day when "everything changed" and four months before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Could be, just sayin', cause I don't have a pipeline to intel sources, that by the time he was shot, by the time they secured the area, by the time he was transported back to some base, by the time some official proof of who he was took place, that time was running short, and the last thing they wanted was to insult Muslims in general by denying him a proper religious burial. If they were going to fly him, they might have had time, but, perhaps because of where they were, maritime transportation was the only safe way out.

 

Okay, I can agree with you that governments manipulate the media. However, if you're looking for me to agree to some conspiracy theory, nah, that dog don't hunt. You kill targets of opportunity when you have the right opportunity, not before, not after.

Look. Anything is possible. I'll admit that. But there's not a person in this forum who has access to real intel, including me. We are all manipulated by the media in one way or another. It still doesn't change the fact that there's one less scary and dangerous person on this planet.

 

It's possible. I guess we'll have to wait for some of our resident experts on Islam to shed more light on the matter.

 

I was fresh out of school when Ronald Reagan took office. As I've grown older, I've come to appreciate him more and more. It's easy these days with satellite media and such to find fault with anyone. But I felt secure back then, more secure than now, more secure than when Bush was in office, and Clinton too. Would have liked to see Colin Powell as President. Seems to project that same kind of "There, there, everything will be okay" radiance that Reagan had.

If that were true, then we wouldn't have joined America's war on terror. Nor would our government have sanctioned the unwarranted arrest of Muslims off the street or out of their homes after 9/11, and handed them over for questioning in places like Guantanamo Bay.

The intel received these days aren't just from some anonymous phone calls made in the dead of night from public pay phones. There is a community who specialises in trading information, who use wire tapping and other forms of information gathering, without the need to rely on third party information.

With this kind of intelligence, do you think the governments had no clue where Bin Laden was hiding out? Of course they knew. They knew all his movements. I don't need a direct line anywhere to realise this. It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain.

I think we are celebrating far too much, far too soon, and that even with Osama Bin Laden dead not much is going to change in the war on terror.

And the street celebrations I've seen at different places around the US reminds me of some of the Muslims celebrating 9/11. That bothers me more than just a little and I suspect might come back to haunt us.

I'm pretty sure that some of the dedicated followers of Bin Laden are seeking and planning revenge as we speak.

 

do you know something that i don't? i think it is a no-brainer that "dedicated followers of bin laden" could be "seeking and planning revenge as we speak.". do you think that the people who are responsible for protecting you, and could be thrown in jail for up to ten years for releasing government secrets, aren't preparing for it? hey, lets be honest, perhaps the next attack (if any) has already been foreseen with the naked eye. every tool is being used at their disposal just like bush said time and time again to hammer the message home.

Really? So tell us why they happened to pick May 1 to nail him? Did the US want to spoil the Royal's honeymoon? Was it a plot to take away business from Cinco de Mayo celebrations?

Why not April 15th, our tax day, to give us something to cheer about while we file our tax returns?

Why not April 1st, and debunk the myth that only foolish things happen on that day?

Why not wait until September 11th, the tenth anniversary, and kill him on that special day? Or July 4th, our independence day? How about March 21st, to help usher in Spring? Why not April 28th, on my birthday?

It isn't a question of knowing. I'm willing to bet dollars against doughnuts that they knew. How long they knew...we may never know. Could have been weeks, could have been more than a month...possibly months, but I have my doubts. I don't think it would take that long to mount an operation.

The bottom line is that the prick is dead, and for that, I'm thankful.

Well the threats have already started pouring in.
The Pakistani Sect of Al Qaeda has made the Pakistani government and it's military it's number one target and the United States it's number two target.
This is one time being number two is not such a bad thing.
There's absolutely no doubt that all hell will break out if the myriad of intelligence agencies around the world don't intercept and preempt their attempts at destroying humanity.
The current celebration is warranted but could also be short lived if private citizens don't keep their eyes open and report suspicious behavior.
