Sunny Deol And Aamir Khan Film: At News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Sunny Deol opened up about his upcoming film ‘Lahore: 1947’, which is being produced by Aamir Khan.

Sunny Deol, who will soon be seen in ‘Jaat’, also has ‘Lahore: 1947’ in the pipeline. The film, which is being produced by Aamir Khan and helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni.’ Now, at News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Sunny Deol talked about the film, and shared that while he had been trying to adapt the play into a film for many years, it wasn’t possible, as it was financially difficult to make. He said that Aamir Khan was the first person who expressed interest in producing the film, after which the project took off.
Speaking at News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Sunny Deol said, “Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya ek play hai jo kai saalon se hum koshish kar rahe the use banana ki. Lekin because success nahi tha, toh financially use banana mushkil ho raha tha. Jaise hi Gadar chali, toh we were very delighted ki koi banayega. And Aamir was the first person jo aaya ki ‘Sunny main ye banana chahta hu.’ (Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya is a play that we had been trying to adapt into a film for many years. However, because there was no success, it was financially difficult to make. When Gadar became a hit, we were really delighted, thinking someone might eventually make it. And Aamir was the first person who came forward and said, ‘Sunny, I want to make this film’)."

Sunny Deol further added, “I said why not, we were waiting to do this film. And Raj (Rajkumar Santoshi) aur hum dono ne 3 film ki hai aur fir kai saalon se kuch kiya nahi hai so from the fan point of view, people out there would love to see us together, so uss tarah se ye silsila chalu hua. (Raj and I had already made three films together, and after that, we hadn’t worked on anything for years, so from the fans’ perspective, people out there would love to see us together. That’s how this project started)."
Lahore: 1947 is based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni’. The story centers around a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore during the partition and is allocated a haveli abandoned by a departing Hindu family. However, the narrative takes a poignant turn when they discover an old Hindu woman living in the haveli who refuses to leave.
Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi have worked together in films such as ‘Ghatak’, ‘Ghayal’, and ‘Damini’. Lahore: 1947 marks their fourth collaboration.
